Functional Screening for Runners

  • 10 Days

About

This challenge is for runners of all levels who want to improve form & minimise their risk of injury. After completing this modified functional screen you will receive individual advice & programming based on your individual functional screen result. Step one is to watch all of the 7 videos showing perfect execution of the 7 functional tasks. You then score yourself on each of the 7 tasks & submit your score. If you are unsure of your score then please video yourself & send to emily@mypilateslife.co.uk Equipment needed: a bar (a mob or broom handle will do); a tape measure; a step or hurdle (or a home made hurdle using a strap & two chairs); a small step. It should take no more than half an hour to complete the screening tests for step 1. Step two: Miki & I will analyse your scores & create a bespoke, individual program for you to complete over the next 6 weeks. Step three: At the end of the 6 weeks you will complete the functional screen again & hopefully we will see an improvement in your scores! The functional movement screen is widely used to ensure athletes have adequate strength, stability & mobility for their given sport. We are using a modified version which is used specifically for runners. Scoring low is a predictor of injury in runners. Low scores for each task highlight where there is impaired functional movement & an increase likelihood of compensatory movement strategies & injury risk.
